The New Jazz Generation: James Morrison Academy Orchestra
“Man, James Morrison can play!” Wynton Marsalis
James Morrison – a long established legend of jazz – introduces the new generation of Australian musicians. Performing with his handpicked Academy Jazz Orchestra, Morrison presents an array of compositions in the jazz big band tradition.
Morrison is a jewel in Australia’s musical crown and his astonishing virtuosity and musicianship has been witnessed globally through performances in the world’s great concert halls and jazz venues. Performance highlights include shows at the Village Vanguard and Blue Note clubs in New York USA, Ronnie Scott’s London UK, the White House (through invitation of Barack Obama), the opening of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and royal command performances for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Parliament House. An appointed Member of the Order of Australia, ARIA Winner and inductee of the Graeme Bell Hall of Fame, he has performed with artists including Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Sinatra, George Benson, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and Whitney Houston.
In addition to his performing schedule, Morrison is a committed music educator, and his Academy of Music in Mount Gambier is regarded as one of Australia’s finest jazz schools. His orchestra musicians are currently completing their Bachelor of Music, working closely with Morrison. They are, in his words, “amongst the finest young musicians in the country”.
Let James Morrison introduce to you the future – the new generation of Australian jazz.
