Chapel Off Chapel

As the festival hub there are seventeen (17) events at Chapel Off Chapel.  This includes the sensational Chapel Off Chapel Concert Series, the exceptional Jazz in The Loft series and special events.

Wheelchair Access

Please call our Box Office on 03 8290 7000 – if you have Wheelchair, Companion Card or Special Needs booking requirements.

Facilities for wheelchair access and seating that allows more room for the use of mobility aids are available in The Chapel and The Loft theatre for all performances (subject to availability).

Chapel Off Chapel is accessible from street level with a lift operating between ground level and The Mezzanine.

Features / Accessibility

A hearing system is available at Chapel Off Chapel – in The Chapel and The Loft theatre.

The system provides coverage to patrons wearing headphones or neckloops available from the Box Office. There is no extra charge for this service, simply ask Box Office staff for assistance when you arrive.

In collaboration with Cork and Chroma, Paint. Sip. Jazz is a unique painting experience where an artist leads participants through basic techniques to create a jazz themed canvas.  This event will be in the Mezzanine at Chapel Off Chapel, for more information about the activity, please contact Cork and Chroma.

Malvern Library and Toorak/South Yarra Libraries

This year there will be a fun take on Storytime with vocalist/ violinist Fem Belling and pianist/vocalist Monique DiMattina capturing the little ones imagination.  Come along to hear children’s stories be bought to life with musical interpretations by these talented musicians.

Malvern Town Hall  

The 2019 Stonnington Jazz Festival, will close with an extraordinary finale with Cool Nights, Hot Jazz! A mini festival in itself this early evening event will celebrate Australian trad jazz with Monique DiMattina, Sugarfood Ramblers, Bob Sedergreen and Adam Rudegeair.

The Malvern Town Hall is accessible from street level via the main entrance.

Melbourne Bowling Club  

 Jazz is not all smokey rooms and chill tunes.  Jazz can be upbeat, fun and something to get your groove on.  The Friday Nights Southside are party central for Stonnington Jazz Festival.

The Woods of Windsor

Bring your pad and pencil for Sketch the Rhythm and join us for the all new jazz edition of Dr Sketchy’s Anti Art School. While listening to jazz music musings, draw and doodle until your hearts content, creative a masterpiece with fellow artisans.

Upon the purchase of tickets, accessibility information is collected to assist with the participation of this activity.

Program highlights!

Fri 10 May – WAR CRY

Six voices from across Australia unite to explore the political, socially aware and thought-provoking spirit of jazz. Featuring Michelle Nicolle, Rita Satch, Odette Mercy, Fem Belling, Racerage and Sahida Apsara this show traverses the intersections of jazz, rhythm and blues, soul, spoken word and traditional music to weave together an emotional and uplifting concert. A specially curated band led by bassist Claire Cross will support each vocalist with hard hitting grooves and harmonies as they perform their selections.

Thu 16 May – Hearing the Blood presented by Barney McAll

Grammy nominated, ARIA award winning piano master, Barney McAll presents compositions from his multi-award winning album Hearing The Blood. With new pieces written specifically for Stonnington Jazz Festival, this strictly limited event is a unique opportunity to witness the master in concert.

Sat 18 May – Queens of the Jazz Age

Starring host and performer Rhonda Burchmore, with Dolly Diamond, Stella Angelico, Cougar Morrison accompanied by the Jack Earle Big Band. This specially curated event is one not to be missed for any cabaret or jazz lover. This livewire line up celebrates everything jazz, big band and cabaret to bring you a truly unique event that harks back to the days of Hollywood glamour.

Sun 19 May – Cool Nights Hot Jazz

The 2019 Stonnington Jazz Festival, will close with an extraordinary finale the Malvern Town Hall. Pianist Moninique DiMattina has assembled a stellar line-up of Australian musicians to play homage to the trad jazz legacy in Melbourne. The Sugarfoot Ramblers will perform a set comprising of original Dixie to honour Red Onions. The Sugarfood Ramblers were formed after two members (Travis Woods and Daniel Berry) spent time in New Orleans and craved an outlet to explore classical traditional jazz. Bob Sedergreen and Adam Rudegeair will also battle it out in a dazzling piano display.

Sat 12 May – Stonnington Industry Jazz Summit

As part of this year’s program we welcome the Jazz Summit. Specifically designed for Australian musicians’ professional development, the summit offers a day full of panel discussions, keynote speakers and performance workshops. The summit includes a keynote speech by our 2019 Jazz Industry Ambassador – straight from San Francisco.
