A Stonnington Jazz premiere, Kate Ceberano celebrates the 30-year anniversary of her debut solo jazz album Kate Ceberano and Her Septet. For one show only, relive the magic of her 1987 Gold Certified release featuring classic standards and stunning interpretations of songs such as ‘My Baby Just Cares For Me’, ‘One Note Samba’ and ‘Midnight Sun.’
A favourite amongst Australian jazz aficionados and music fans alike, the album was unintended to be Kate’s first solo release. First finding fame with her funk outfit “I’m Talking” Kate was awarded the ARIA for Best Female vocalist in 1985. In 1986, Kate was asked to step in to replace a cancelled jazz performer at the Perth International Jazz Festival with only a week’s notice. Subsequently she was invited to recreate the performance at the Melbourne State Theatre. The show was a huge success and due to popular demand the live recording was released as her debut album.
Since the success of her first solo effort, Kate has gone on to become one of Australia’s most celebrated artists. With five platinum albums, five gold albums, a Logie nod and multiple ARIA awards, Kate has sold over 1.5 million albums in Australia alone and was the first woman to be inducted into the Australian Songwriters Association Hall of Fame.
In the stunning surrounds of the Malvern Town Hall, join Kate and her Septet for an unforgettable evening of jazz, storytelling and soulful style.
